2020 Conference

Themed ‘Redefining Freedom’ the Conference Returns

The conference programme for Sleep & Eat Virtual will explore the design narratives, operational norms and future developments as they will be shaped in the next normal. With the help of hospitality design greats, we look back to find comfort for the future. This is an unprecedented time, but not the first and definitely not the last crisis for humanity. How our freedom has been shaped in the last couple of months and what does that mean for the short, medium and long-term developments and trends - all this will be discussed in various virtual keynotes and panels over three days of Sleep & Eat Virtual 2020.

Hospitality Design Thought Leadership

Panel Discussions

In addition to the below keynotes, the panel discussions will include Women In Hotels with a focus on hospitality acquisitions and developments; a panel with leading hotel General Managers, as well as one with an array of international design agencies. Sleep & Eat sets will be discussed in another session and various resort developers from around the world will talk about the rise of wellness travel with a focus on sustainability.

Keynote: Clean Design

Tony Chi and Alison Chi
Lauren Rottet

Tony Chi, Founder of tonychi & Alison Chi, Managing Director and Co-Creative Director of tonychi studio

Before creativity becomes cohesive, it must first have free-reign. Before a team can harmonize, its members must dive into the asynchronous rhythm of their own expertise. Before an interior becomes iconic, its designers will have pulled from endless inspiration sought across time and space. At this year’s Sleep & Eat Virtual, Tony Chi and Alison Chi of tonychi studio will take the audience through some of the studio’s most acclaimed projects, which encapsulate the notion of “designing to contain the chaos.”

Lauren Rottet, Founding Principal of Rottet Studio

In this keynote Lauren will be exploring how to create now for the future. Our industry is at an unprecedented point where no one has the answers but everyone wants to move forward. In the next reality we can speak about different levels of clean - clean, really clean and the perception of clean. How these different levels manifest themselves in guest behaviour and choices and what does that mean for hotel design of the future – Lauren will dig deep into her understanding of the craft to try answer these questions.
